A growing number of religious leaders, scholars, and organizations are actively engaging on environmental issues, seeking to better understand the complex nature of current environmental concerns, explore what scripture says about environmental stewardship, and help shape individual and collective responses to today’s environmental challenges. For the past two years, the Nicholas Institute has served as a nonpartisan technical advisor to the National Religious Partnership for the Environment—a faith-based environmental organization representing four different U.S. faith groups, which collectively advocates on behalf of more than 31 million members. Much of the NRPE’s current work has focused on mobilizing funding for developing countries’ efforts to cope with climate change—what is known as “adaptation funding.” Here we provide links for those wishing to find out more about the growing faith-based environmental movement, as well as briefs the Nicholas Institute has produced on adaptation-relevant provisions in proposed U.S. and international climate policy.
