from 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm
Where Mellon Auditorium, 1301 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.

The luncheon will feature a public discussion by leaders from the political and corporate worlds on “Post-Election Priorities for Energy, the Environment and the Economy.”

Featured speakers:
U.S. Sen. John McCain, joined by Jeffry Sterba, Chair and CEO of PNM Resources, and incoming Chair, Edison Electric Institute for 2007 in a discussion about setting a U.S. carbon limit to achieve national economic, environmental, and energy security objectives.

The Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University is a first-of-its-kind academic institution designed to bridge the gap between academic research and active policymaking. We hope to be of help to political leaders, business leaders, non-profit advocates, and others seeking grounded information and new connections to understand the roles of a healthy environment and find the paths forward to preserve it.

The new DC office at 1616 P Street NW, Suite 410, will allow the institute to respond quickly and effectively to policymakers’ needs by bringing the broad environmental policy expertise of the institute, the Duke University community, and its partners directly to their doorsteps.

Focused on forging a new perspective on the most complicated environmental policy concerns and opportunities facing us today, the Institute initially will concentrate its efforts on climate change and the economics of limiting carbon pollution; oceans governance and coastal development; freshwater concerns at home and abroad; and emerging environmental markets.

Leaders from business, government, energy, environmental NGOs, think tanks and academia will join us at the launch reception as we highlight how sound environmental policies can play a pivotal role in addressing these issues and enhancing national security, world stability, and U.S. competitiveness in the 21st century economy.
