DURHAM, N.C. – Tuesday, the Nicholas Institute’s Linwood Pendleton will join his Environmental Defense Fund co-author as guests on a Jefferson Public Radio show.

The hour-long broadcast will go over the findings from their recent peer-reviewed study on California ecosystems, now out in the scientific journal Climatic Change.

Compiled by Duke and six other institutions, the study indicates climate change is likely to harm California's economy by reducing the types of natural, non-irrigated vegetation available for livestock forage and the ability of forest ecosystems to store carbon dioxide. It concludes that, whether the state's climate becomes warmer and wetter or warmer and drier, it will be more expensive to raise cattle because there will be less forage to sustain the animals.

Tune into the program Tuesday (Feb. 7) at noon EST/9 a.m. PST. Listeners may ask questions of the guests by sending an e-mail to jx@jeffnet.org or by calling 1-800-838-3760.
