Alison Eagle's Bio and Research
Dr. Alison J. Eagle is Research Director for the Technical Working Group on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (T-AGG), based at Duke University. She joined Duke in 2009, shortly after earning a PhD from Wageningen University (Netherlands) in agricultural economics and rural policy. Dr. Eagle also has training and experience in soil science, agronomy and agricultural extension, including a MS from the University of California-Davis, and a BSc from the University of Alberta.
Her work has focused on economic and policy issues related to agricultural land management and interactions between agriculture and the environment. Raised on a farm in Alberta, Canada, Dr. Eagle’s interest in agriculture began through farm-work and 4-H participation, and continued through university studies into research and related employment. She studied soil nutrient dynamics in California rice fields where residue management adjustments were required to protect air quality. Her subsequent work engaged California dairy producers and others in developing and demonstrating improved manure management practices for water resource protection. Moving to British Columbia in 2002, she shifted into agricultural economics research, addressing diverse topics such as climate change, invasive species, and farmland protection at the rural-urban fringe. With T-AGG, she now combines soil science with economics and policy.
