Associate Professor of the Practice of Environmental Policy, Director of Professional Studies, and Chair of the Business and Environment Program at the Nicholas School of the Environment
Deborah Rigling Gallagher is associate professor of the Practice of Environmental Policy at Duke University’s Nicholas School of Environment, where she is director of Professional Studies and chair of the Business and Environment Program. Her research focuses on business environmental leadership issues such as corporate engagement in climate policy, carbon pricing leadership, and sustainable business practices to promote global health. She has had a longstanding research partnership with the United Nations Global Compact. She edited Environmental Leadership: A Reference Handbook and Innovations in Environmental Leadership: A Critical Perspective. She received her Ph.D. in public policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University. Gallagher has held a series of environmental leadership positions in the public and private sector.
