About
Join the Nicholas Institute for a reception with students and alumni as we discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the 31st Conference of Parties (COP31) and how we can work together to advance progress.
This year's United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties will take place November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye; Australia will serve as the President of Negotiations for COP31; Fiji will host the Pre-COP preparatory meeting; and Tuvalu will host a Leaders’ event from 5 to 8 October 2026, in partnership with Australia.
The stakes are high. COP31 will grapple with thorny issues around financial commitments to help low- and middle-income countries address climate challenges, clarifying the rulebook for trading carbon credits internationally, advancing specifics for the Global Goal on Adaptation, and more.
Duke University is involved in COP31 on multiple fronts, from faculty and expert participation to the wide-ranging impacts of our alumni to a delegation of Duke students that will be attending. This reception will bring these communities and their broader networks together to informally discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by COP31 and how we can work together to advance progress.
The reception is organized by Duke University’s Office of Climate and Sustainability, Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability.
