Nature-Based Solutions Case Study
Restoration Research at Red Rock Canyon State Park
State/Territory:
Until it was added to Red Rock Canyon State Park in 1989, the South Flat area had been heavily used by off-higway vehicles (OHVs) as a campground with large motor homes, leading to significant vegetation damage. The project goal was to revegetating the area with perennials. The original plan to recover native annual species was slowed down by the consecutive dry seasons due to La Niña effect. Seven hundred seedlings were grown from local seed in SERG greenhouses, and five hundred of the seedlings were planted at South flat in March 2000.
