October 2 Webinar
Join The Resiliency Company and the Nicholas Institute for “Before Disaster Strikes—How Six States Approach Financing Resilient Homes” on October 2, 12-1:15 p.m. ET.
How can innovative financing approaches help homeowners and affordable housing providers invest in resilience measures before disasters strike?
This project explores how states can finance property-level resilience investments that reduce disaster losses, improve housing affordability, and stabilize increasingly stressed property insurance markets. Using IBHS FORTIFIED Roofs™ as the primary example, the project examines how public policy, insurance regulation, housing finance, and private capital can work together to move investment "upstream"—before disasters occur—rather than relying primarily on post-disaster recovery.
Led by experts at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability in partnership with The Resiliency Company, the project includes in-depth case studies documenting a variety of innovative financing approaches in six states. A policy brief captures common design features across the state programs studied.
These resources (and forthcoming companion pieces) can provide a practical roadmap for legislators, insurance regulators, housing finance agencies, philanthropies, and other decision makers.
