Bans on Evictions, Utility Shutoffs Are Curbing COVID Infections: Study

Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions

Bans on evictions and utility shutoffs during the pandemic may not only be keeping people safe and warm in their homes: They might also limit the spread of COVID-19, new research from Duke University suggests.

Researcher Kay Jowers, a senior policy associate at the Nicholas Institute, told HealthDay that when people are forced out of their homes, they likely have to move in with family or friends, or go to shelters. During a pandemic, where social distancing is critical, that makes people more vulnerable, Jowers pointed out.
