The Pandemic's Effect on Energy and the Environment

Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had a destructive effect on the oil industry, but may give lawmakers and policy experts a chance to do some productive, environmentally friendly long-term energy planning, three Duke University experts said Wednesday during a press briefing for reporters.

The energy scholars at the briefing were: Kate Konschnik, director of the Climate and Energy Program at Duke's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions; Brian Murray, director of the Duke University Energy Initiative; and Drew Shindell, professor of earth science at the Nicholas School of the Environment.
