Unreliable energy access presents additional challenges to developing countries responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. One quarter of sub-Saharan African facilities don’t have access to power—often because they are far from the electrical grid.
Rob Fetter, senior policy associate with the Energy Access Project at Duke, told Energy Voice that off-grid solutions, such as a captive solar or solar mini-grid installation, could be implemented relatively quickly to help address the issue.
