The Nicholas Institute's Alison Eagle and Lydia Olander will present "Enlisting the Weatherman in Decisions about Enhanced Efficiency N Fertilizers," at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 7 at the American Society of Agronomy/Crop Science Society of America/Soil Science Society of America Annual Meetings.

The presentation will focus on how enhanced efficiency nitrogen fertilizer products use nitrification inhibitors, urease inhibitors, and polymer coatings to delay conversion into plant-available forms of nitrogen (N) that are also at high risk for denitrification and leaching losses. While individual studies have examined the effectiveness of these products in certain locations and cropping systems, the impact of weather (temperature and precipitation) on the yield benefits and N losses in not fully understood.
