Long-term resource planning in the electricity sector is complicated by unprecedented uncertainty regarding future electricity demand, new generation resources, fuel prices, and future environmental regulations, which is challenging traditional approaches to resource planning. On September 30, the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions will host Gary Brinkworth of the Tennessee Valley Authority and Michael Schilmoeller of the Northwest Power and Conservation Council—two entities leading efforts to tackle risk and uncertainty in electricity resource planning. Brinkworth and Schilmoeller will discuss their approaches to analyzing risk and developing robust long-term plans.
