Co-sponsored with the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative
Piedmont Biofuels co-founder Lyle Estill is a seasoned social entrepreneur with an unusually diverse resume. A self-described "traveling salesman who accidentally became an environmentalist," he has guided technology and energy startup ventures on three continents over the course of three decades of business experience. During that time, his vision has evolved toward increasingly local and sustainable solutions to energy and environmental challenges. Estill will examine what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur amidst the rapid and continual change of the renewable energy sector. Drawing on experience in biofuels, wind and hydropower, he'll discuss common challenges including state and federal policies, technologies, and market trends, as well as opportunities for people with big ideas and a commitment to making sustainability work.
