Colleen Nieto
Program Director for Education & Experiential Learning
Colleen Nieto is the Nicholas Institute’s program program director for education & experiential learning. She works on the institute’s student-facing programming, including Bass Connections Energy & Environment team management, UNFCCC Practicum engagement, energy curriculum oversight, and student intern support.
Prior to joining the Nicholas Institute, Nieto worked for Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, where she taught high school English and art history before becoming the director of training & academic integration for their corporate work-study program. She also spent a year as a volunteer teacher at the Working Boys’ Center in Quito, Ecuador.
Nieto received her master’s degree in curriculum & instruction from Loyola University Chicago and her bachelor’s degrees in English and secondary education from Providence College. Her master’s research focused on the relationship between experiential learning and student engagement.
This year’s summer read for incoming first year students: All We Can Save, which was nominated by our colleagues at Sustainable Duke. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine K. Wilkinson edited essays that feature the perspectives of 60 women on where we go from here.
