With a background in economics and a passion for public policy, Mirna Elsharief joined the NIEES in March 2025 as a senior policy associate at Duke University's James E. Rogers Energy Access Project within the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability. Her work focuses on adaptation, resilience, and energy transition. Prior to joining the Institute, Elsharief worked at the Egyptian Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, where she gained extensive experience in international development partnerships and strategic planning on the policy level. She has also been involved in COP27 initiatives, supporting efforts to achieve just transition and climate justice.

Elsharief received a master's degree in international economics from the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in statistics from Cairo University. Elsharief also holds a double degree in economics from the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, in collaboration with Cairo University.
