100 Companies Dominate Sea Industries Like Offshore Energy

A hundred companies earn most of the revenue generated from ocean-based industries like offshore energy, according to a new study, giving a handful of large corporations outsize sway over global sustainability efforts, Energywire reports.

Co-author John Virdin, director of the Nicholas Institute's Ocean and Coastal Policy Program, spoke to Energywire about why so much of the revenue in eight core ocean industries is concentrated among the "Ocean 100." Virdin also discussed the implications for meeting ocean sustainability goals.
