Study Finds a Way to Power the AI Boom Without a Bunch of New Gas Plants

A recent report by Nicholas Institute researchers shows that temporary reductions in power usage by data centers and other large users could free up supply on the grid for nearly 100 gigawatts of additional power demand. “We’re not trying to claim we’re not going to need more capacity. We absolutely are,” lead author Tyler Norris told Mother Jones. “But at minimum, this should be a tool in the toolbox to get new loads online more quickly so we can win this economic race.”
