Before Big Oil: A Political History of Britain's Fossil Transition, 1760-1850 
Join the Department of History for a talk with Professor Fredrik Albritton Jonsson (University of Chicago) on how canal infrastructure, the deep mine, and the iron industry specifically provided the material basis for Britain's fossil energy transition during the "Industrial Revolution" from the late eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries.
This talk is part of the Energy Research Seminar Series sponsored by Duke's Department of History, Franklin Humanities Institute (FHI), and Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability.

Students, faculty, and staff at Duke and other Triangle-area universities are invited to attend this in-person event (no virtual viewing option).
