Duwamish River People's Park

State/Territory:

Terminal 117, a former industrial and superfund site along the Duwamish River, was transformed into the Duwamish River People’s Park and Shoreline Habitat. This project cleaned up a contaminated site, restored natural and stable shoreline habitat, and created river access in a historically marginalized neighborhood. The project created salt marsh habitat that supports juvenile salmon habitat, and over 40,000 native species were planted at the site. Piers, trails, art installations, boat launches, and a treaty-fish piling were all included in the revitalized park. This park is important to community and tribal connection to the river, and improves tribes’ ability to practice treatyfishing rights and harvest returning salmon every season.
