Nature-Based Solutions Case Study
Grande Cheniere Ridge Marsh Creation
State/Territory:
This project created 335 acres of marsh and 28,342 linear feet of earthen containment dike in Bayou Grande Cheniere, Louisiana. This project utilized sediment materials from the Mississippi River borrow areas. This marsh and containment dike will enhance biodiversity and coastal protection from erosion and wave action. The success of this project will be measured by the spatial extent (acres) of the marsh, the elevation of the marsh, the vegetative cover of the marsh, the invasive species cover on the marsh, and the soil quality at the marsh. The total authorized budget for this project was $65,000,000.00.
