Nature-Based Solutions Case Study
King Fisher Beach
State/Territory:
King Fisher Beach in Port O’Connor, Texas is a major destination for tourists and local recreation. It is increasingly susceptible to the impacts of storm surge, sea-level rise, and erosion. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers nourished King Fisher Beach with 58,305 cubic meters of dredged sediment from a nearby federal navigation channel. This beneficial use of dredged material increases tourism and recreation opportunities, adds property value to surrounding neighborhoods, builds habitat, and protects communities from storm surge, sea-level rise, and erosion. The dredged material will now stay in the local ecosystem and reduce the rate of future erosion.
