Nature-Based Solutions Case Study
Wagon Hill Farm
State/Territory:
The shoreline of Wagon Hill Farm in Durham, New Hampshire was experiencing erosion and salt marsh loss from foot traffic, ice, tides, and boat waves. This project constructed New Hampshire’s first living shoreline using an almost-vertical rock sill that incorporated root wads. The project designers built out 9 meters of new marsh into the mudflats instead of filling in the flats with a gentle slope. Fencing was installed to protect the project site, and a viewing deck and walkway were built to connect the public to Great Bay and the marsh.
