Hassalo on Eighth Green Roof

State/Territory:

The Hassalo on Eighth community transformed a previously underdeveloped area—formerly a vast parking lot—into a vibrant, eco-friendly, 24-hour community minutes from downtown Portland. The development features green roofs, rainwater harvesting and treatment facilities, on-site wastewater treatment and reuse, infiltration systems, district energy, and natural daylighting. Columbia Green Technologies' green roofs cover 25,650 square feet. The natural organic recycling machine reduces water usage for the four buildings by 50 percent (7.3 million gallons of water per year), and the greenroofs reduce peak flows during large rain events by retaining stormwater.
