Implementing Green Infrasturcture at Multiple Scales to Enhance Resilience

State/Territory:

Alachua County, Florida is facing increasing climate threats from flooding, storms, and droughts. The county government has worked to implement green infrastructure projects and policies to increase Alachua County’s resilience. The county has involved developers, landscapers, and community members to implement green stormwater projects on both public and private lands. The county government passed a wetland protection ordinance, created incentives for developers to implement green projects, and are working to update their stormwater code to continue to increase resilience. Rain gardens, bioretention sites, and native vegetation plantings represent many of the completed projects.
