Madrean Archipelago Plant Propagation Initiative: Implementing the National Seed Strategy on a Regional Scale
State/Territory:
Non-governmental organizations Borderlands Restoration (BR) and Gila Watershed Partnership (GWP) led the Madrean Archipelago Plant Propagation (MAPP) Initiative to coordinate seed collection, curation, and production of plant materials with on-the-ground restoration in the Sky Islands. MAPP created a database to track seed collection, propagation, and outplanting data, and coordinated seed collection efforts with the BLM and NPS. The MAPP “Seed Lab” is designed as a center for instruction, study, and research on native species in the Madrean Archipelago. Since 2015, the interagency crew of BLM, NPS, and USFS collected over 100 populations of native plant seeds for propagation and restoration projects.
