Over the past 20 years, the blue economy has grown exponentially, employing at least 4.5 million people in Europe alone before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this blue acceleration also jeopardizes the health of the oceans.
John Virdin, director of the Nicholas Institute's Ocean and Coastal Policy Program, spoke with the Italian newspaper il Bollettino about the impacts of the blue acceleration and ways to improve ocean sustainability.
