Planning Methods

Some of the methods described in the GEMS metrics protocols are useful to consider at the project planning phase. When planning where to place or how to design a particular project, it can be useful to use the tools listed below to help you think about the types of communities and user groups who might be affected (both positively and negatively) by your project’s installation.

Use stakeholder assessment [PDF] and community demographic and social vulnerability assessments [PDF] to think about all potential stakeholder groups in the project service area and how they might be affected.

Use project checklists [PDF] for a rapid way to think about accessibility of your planned project.

Use workshops [PDF] or participatory mapping [PDF] to gain more detailed insights from potential project beneficiaries to get their input at the project’s planning stages.
